The RN OB Fellowship program is a full time, comprehensive, structured combination of didactic and clinical experiences. The fellowship was designed to prepare nurses for independent practice in the area of obstetrical nursing which includes Obstetrical Triage, Labor and Delivery, O.B. Operating room, Postpartum, and Newborn Nursery. Didactic education modules from AWHONN POEP program. POEP is a clinical program that provides continuing nursing education (CNE) hours. It is designed to provide nurses with theoretical knowledge needed to provide holistic, family-centered care to women, their infants, and family members during the preconception, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. The program is targeted toward registered nurses who are new to perinatal nursing, including graduate nurses and those who are experienced, but new to the perinatal care setting.
The content can also be used as continued education for experienced perinatal nurses. The didactic content is a component of a comprehensive perinatal nursing program. The OB Fellow will also have an assigned preceptor that is an experienced LDRP RN to facilitate clinical learning component. The OB Fellow will participate in skills stations and perinatal mock codes in coordination with didactic education. Also includes additional courses/certifications required for LDRP RNs including AWHONN Introduction to Fetal Monitoring course, NRP, and S.T.A.B.L.E.
Bachelor's Degree RN
Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program. Nurses hired who have not earned a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, will be required to do so within five (5) years from their date of hire.
One year RN experience with Med Surg, LDRP experience strongly preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) desired. Experience working in a team environment is essential. Computer skills required and prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Must be able to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call. Will need to demonstrate ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Must demonstrate leadership skills, skills contributing towards a positive teamwork environment, effective communication, and excellent critical thinking skills.
