The RN must be currently licensed by the New York State Board of Nursing and must successfully complete a medication and IV exam, as outline by the hospital, during the orientation period. In addition, the RN must meet individual nursing unit specifications regarding educational requirement during employment. The RN must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.  Specialty certification, CEN, TCRN, PHRN, Flight should be achieved as soon as the RN is eligible. Additional specialty certification/training required includes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), EKG training within the first year after hire.

Main Function

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients in an acute care environment.  Accountable for the delivery of coordinated, safe, compassionate, therapeutic, evidence-based quality care to patients and families, based on individual physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and appropriate care strategies throughout the lifespan. Practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the ANA scope and standards of practice. Essential functions and specific skills for the job are found in the unit specific onboarding checklist and in standards that are applicable to the specialty.

Education

Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program.

Experience

One year RN experience within the last five years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) desired. Experience working in a team environment.  Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Must be able to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.  Will need to demonstrate the ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.  Must demonstrated leadership skills, skills contributing towards a positive teamwork environment, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
