Position provides technical and regulatory consultation for the Point of Care Testing Program (POCT) and assists with standardizing protocols throughout Guthrie. Works closely with hospital staff to coordinate training, implementation, coordination and monitoring of a POCT program. Current New York State license as Certified Laboratory Technologist is required. Must be a Medical Technologist with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience in the clinical laboratory.Essential FunctionsActs as Point of Care Coordinator and Stays current with New York State Department of Health and Joint Commission regulations. Responsible for preparing and maintaining laboratory technical procedure manuals for POCT within the laboratory and offering guidance system-wide.Responsible for POCT data collection, monitoring, and reporting QA data for areas within the hospital system that perform POCT.Develops, implements, and monitors Quality Control, and Proficiency Testing programs program for those areas within the hospital that perform POCT.Ensures that remedial action is taken and documented when tests do not perform to specifications or if proficiency-testing results indicate unacceptable scores Coordinates the training of POCT testing personnel in proper laboratory procedures, i.e., testing methodologies, quality control, documentation. Performs lab related competency assessments.Responsible for completion of documentation (i.e.: PPR) necessary to maintain licensure. Ensures that annual license fees and necessary expenses are paid. As well as notification of changes relevant to the Joint Commission Accreditation.Monitors preparedness for inspection of those areas within the hospital that perform POCT. Is present for all announced inspections. Ensures that all deficiencies cited are corrected. Acts as site coordinator for Joint Commission and other accrediting agencies.Responsible for coordinating periodic inspections of each area with the hospital that perform POCT to determine compliance with regulations.Uses good judgment in the communication of all relevant issues, problems and/or developments in those areas of the hospital that perform POCT to the appropriate personnel and the Administrative Director.Follows established Organizational and Departmental policies and practices.Participates the POC Steering Committee.Responsible for the coordination of new methodologies and recommend changes when needed and implement. Acts as liaison between Patient Care areas, Leadership and Guthrie Clinic Laboratory.Maintains a safe and clean environment in the performance of job duties.Oversees the laboratory during the shift ensuring work is performed to maintain operations. Performs duties of medical technologist when not performing point of care responsibilities.Performs other duties as instructed or requested.
