Unit Description

8NW - the Cardiac and Vascular Unit, is a 20-bed telemetry unit that provides collaborative care to our procedural, post-operative, and medically managed cardiac and vascular patients. The unit is actively engaged in quality initiatives that support Guthrie’s Cardiac Service Line and its patients’ outcomes. We focus our efforts on improving the patient experience through providing quality, comprehensive and individualized care to all our patients and families. The Leadership Team is dedicated to meeting the professional and personal goals of its nursing team. In addition, the nursing team strives to enhance engagement and teamwork throughout the unit. 8NW is committed to our patients, families and nursing team!

Main Function

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients in an acute care environment. Accountable for the delivery of coordinated, safe, compassionate, therapeutic, evidence-based quality care to patients and families, based on individual physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and appropriate care strategies throughout the lifespan. Practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the ANA scope and standards of practice. Essential functions and specific skills for the job are found in the unit specific onboarding checklist and in standards that are applicable to the specialty.


Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program.   Nurses hired who have not earned a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, will be required to do so within five (5) years from their date of hire.


One year RN experience within the last five years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) desired.  Experience working in a team environment is essential.  Computer skills required and prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.  Must be able to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.  Will need to demonstrate ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.  Must demonstrate leadership skills, skills contributing towards a positive teamwork environment, effective communication, and excellent critical thinking skills.
