The RN must be currently licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and must successfully complete a medication and IV exam, as outline by the hospital, during the orientation period. In addition, the RN must meet individual nursing unit specifications regarding educational requirement during employment. The RN must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. Specialty certification, CEN, TCRN, PHRN, Flight should be achieved as soon as the RN is eligible. Additional specialty certification/training required includes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation Education, and EKG training within the first year after hire.
The Emergency Department at Robert Packer Hospital is a Level II Trauma Center that provides care to over 34,000 patients and families per year. We serve the communities of north central PA and south-central NY, covering approximately 10,000 square miles and eleven counties, providing care ranging from life-saving interventions to well-baby teaching for new parents. Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital is certified by the Joint Commission and the American Heart Association as a Primary Stroke Center. Our Emergency Department has state of the art amenities including private rooms, three resuscitation bays, vertical care treatment spaces and a fully equipped decontamination area. Our team members participate in both Hospital and Unit-based Shared Governance and work collaboratively with the leadership team to create the ideal patient and staff experience.
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients in an acute care environment. Accountable for the delivery of coordinated, safe, compassionate, therapeutic, evidence-based quality care to patients and families, based on individual physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and appropriate care strategies throughout the lifespan. Practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the ANA scope and standards of practice. Essential functions and specific skills for the job are found in the unit specific onboarding checklist and in standards that are applicable to the specialty.
Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program. Nurses hired who have not earned a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, will be required to do so within five (5) years from their date of hire.
One year RN experience within the last five years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) desired. Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Must be able to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call. Will need to demonstrate the ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Must demonstrated leadership skills, skills contributing towards a positive teamwork environment, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
