The Guthrie Corning Hospital Emergency Department is a 22-bed full-service ED, providing emergency care and stabilization to patients of all ages who present for care. Our single-patient rooms allow for privacy and include specialty rooms for trauma and psychiatric emergencies. Our nurses work in collaboration with multiple disciplines and departments, both internal and external. Our patient population includes the entire lifespan from infancy to the elderly, acuity ranges from simple injuries and illnesses to complex critical conditions. Nursing in the emergency department requires the ability to think critically, prioritize care, rapidly identify and react to emergent situations, have excellent communication skills, work in a team environment, and be able to perform a variety of interventions. Our focus is to provide safe and timely care to each patient that enters our department while supporting each other in our efforts. Our highly skilled RNs are trained in ACLS, PALS, trauma and stroke care and our physicians are board-certified in Emergency Medicine.
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients in an acute care environment. Accountable for the delivery of coordinated, safe, compassionate, therapeutic, evidence-based quality care to patients and families, based on individual physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and appropriate care strategies throughout the lifespan. Practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the ANA scope and standards of practice. Essential functions and specific skills for the job are found in the unit specific onboarding checklist and in standards that are applicable to the specialty.
Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program.
