Main Function

The certified athletic trainer is a licensed allied healthcare professional whose primary concern is the optimal health of student athletes and physically active individuals.  Under the direction of a physician, they specialize in injury prevention, injury evaluation and management, emergency situations, rehabilitation, and returning the athlete to play safely and quickly.  The certified athletic trainer will be assigned to provide outreach athletic training services to high school & Jr high school athletics at contracted schools. The certified athletic trainer will be assigned to provide outreach athletic training services to Towanda Area Junior Senior High School while assisting at other contracted high schools as needed.  Under the direction of the athletic director, practice and game coverage schedules will be determined.  Typical workday starts after the school day ends and concludes with the last practice or event.   This position works directly with the Guthrie Sports Medicine Medical Director and Guthrie Sports Medicine Team Leader.  There are no clinic hours required with this position.

Education

The incumbent shall, at a minimum, be a graduate of an accredited four-year bachelors degree program.  Incumbent must be Board Certified by the National Athletic Training Association. Current licensure in the state of primary practice is required.  Current dual licensure in New York and Pennsylvania is preferred.  Education/experience in working with an adolescent and adult population is necessary; education/experience-serving people with physical limitations is desired.
