Main Function

The EMT is an allied health professional who provides a wide range of basic level patient care and transportation outside the hospital setting, under emergency and non-emergency conditions. The individual must be able to deal with all types of human responses from the patient, bystanders, and themselves. The EMT is responsible for functioning in the pre-hospital setting as well as various capacities throughout the hospital. Patient care encompasses patients of all ages regardless of race, religion, or cultural background.


High School Grad or Equivalent


EMT need to maintain current certification as an EMT issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.   EMT must have current CPR and EVOC certifications along with a valid driver license.  The EMT must have the ability to read, write, understanding oral communication.   The EMT must have the ability to give presentations and teach.  The EMT must be able to keep neat and legible written records.  The EMT must be able to follow universal precautions, use proper body mechanics and make appropriate timely decisions.  The EMT must be able to handle traumatic situations, such as the death of a patient, including children, and other unpleasant sights.
