Main Function
Responsible for accurate and compliant assigning of ICD-10 diagnosis, PCS procedure codes correctly assigning POA to the diagnosis. In addition, correct and Compliant assigning of CPT procedure code, modifiers, and appropriate assignments of DRGs/ APCs. Coding staff will abide by the standards of ethical coding as set forth by American Health Information Management association.
Education
Registered Health Information administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or CPC (Certified Professional Coder) required within one year.
A minimum High school Education. Preferably with post High school courses in anatomy/ physiology and medical terminology. A minimum of five years of inpatient or outpatient coding experience in an acute hospital setting may be considered as a substitute. Associates or bachelor’s degree in health information management or related field is desirable.
Experience
Computer experience, knowledge of laboratory values and Pharmacology preferred. Strong knowledge base in Anatomy and Physiology. Minimum of one-year experience coding in an acute care facility HIM department is desirable
