Main Function
The ICU Nurse Educator is responsible for assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical education processes in the ICUs. Adult learning theories are utilized when formulating and implementing educational programs/activities for staff, clients, and the community. The Nurse Educator acts as a consultant and change agent in the development of standards of care for clinical practice; utilizes and applies change theory in matters related to clinical practice; applies interpersonal skills and fosters communication when interacting with staff, patients, and other members of the healthcare organization. The ICU Nurse Educator is self-directed in maintaining clinical competencies; pursues continued excellence in clinical practice; is self-motivated in identifying own strengths and limitations; and seeks to improve areas of weakness. He/she is a member of the ICU leadership team and assists with the overall supervision of staff in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and other members of the leadership team.
Education
The ICU Nurse Educator must have their Masters in Nursing or be actively enrolled in a Masters in Nursing program. They must possess current licensure by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Registered Professional Nurse.
Experience
A minimum of five years clinical experience (minimum of 3 of the 5 years in ICU) and demonstrated abilities in teaching, leadership skills, and clinical nursing practice.
