The Intensive Care Unit at Corning Hospital is an 8-bed unit with all private rooms and modern technology to care for patients who need close supervision and/or constant care. The patients in the ICU range from stable (patients who just may need an IV medication or more frequent monitoring) to very critical (patients who require life support equipment and medications.) The unit is staffed by RNs and Care Techs who work closely with the Physicians, Respiratory Therapists, Pharmacists, and others to provide high quality, team-based approach to specialized care. The nurse to patient ratio is higher than on the medical surgical floors; in ICU, the ratio is 1 RN to 2-3 patients, depending on acuity. Common conditions that are treated within the ICU include acute respiratory distress syndrome, cardiac syndromes, septic shock and other life-threatening condition
Provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients in a scientific and humanistic focus. The Corning Hospital Registered Nurse utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in the physiological, psychological, social-cultural, developmental and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age specific and are directed toward optimal wellness. Registered Nurse will be patient centered, promote teamwork and strives for excellence.
