Main Function

 the planning, or

Responsible for the assistance in the planning, organizing, technical operations and coordinating of the technical and administrative activities for the Blood Bank section. This is to include personnel orientation, competency, oversight of all technical aspects, technical regulatory compliance and assistance in determination of the departmental strategic direction. Performs established laboratory procedures according to approved protocols that require the broad exercise of independent judgement and interpretation, maintains equipment and records; performs quality assurance activities related to test performance and functions as a supervisor and educator within a medical laboratory setting. Position provides technical, educational, and regulatory guidance for the Blood Bank for Guthrie Corning Hospital.  Works closely with hospital staff to coordinate training, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of the blood banks.  The blood bank operates under the medical direction of the Laboratory Director or designated pathologist. The Blood Bank Coordinator’s main duty is to represent the laboratory management and their authority when working.  It is paramount that your actions and decisions coincide with those policies, procedures, and general management philosophy of the laboratory management.  In the event that you encounter problems that you are not able to solve or resolve, it is imperative that you contact the administrative or medical director for guidance, depending on which is most appropriate.

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related sciences

Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the state of New York

Experience

Six (6) years’ experience in clinical laboratory technology
