BSU is a 26-bed inpatient psychiatric facility with 6 semi-private rooms and 20 private rooms. The unit is comprised of three different programs, adolescent programming which accepts individuals 14-17-year-old, adult program, 18 and older, and intensive care treatment. Staff participated in 12 hour shifts and practice self-scheduling with rotating weekend shifts. BSU is a multidisciplinary team that is made up of mental health therapists, psychiatric technicians, therapeutic case managers, registered nurses, psychiatrists, behavioral health assessment specialists, and psychiatric nurse practitioners. The team practices shared governance and has a voice in all changes that are identified to go along with Guthrie’s Values. The team participates in monthly staff meetings as well as individual councils providing input into unit change.
Provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients in a scientific and humanistic focus. The Robert Packer Hospital Staff Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in the physiological, psychological, social-cultural, developmental and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age specific and are directed toward optimal wellness.
Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program.
The staff nurse must be a graduate nurse eligible to take the state board examination or a registered nurse currently licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing, and must successfully complete an IV medication challenge examination as outlined by the hospital within the orientation period. In addition, the staff registered nurse must meet individual nursing unit specifications regarding educational requirements during employment. Must maintain CPR certification and practice.
