Unit Description

4 West Observation / Short Procedure Unit: The Observation Unit is a 16-bed patient care unit that serves a variety of patients. The unit is designed to provide high quality, personalized care for patients. The patients cared for on this unit require medical observation, evaluation, and treatment for conditions that do not require admission to an inpatient unit.  Outpatient procedure patients recover here as well, and the average length of stay is less than 48 hours. 

The Patient Population for This Unit is Diverse, Including Patients with:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Back pain
  • Chest pain
  • Headaches
  • Syncope
  • Post Cardiac Procedures
  • Post Electrophysiology Lab Procedures
  • Interventional Radiology Procedures
  • Post Laparoscopic Procedures

This unit is a dynamic and fast paced environment rich with opportunities for learning. We utilize a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that encourages teamwork between physicians, nursing staff, therapy staff, social work and a variety of other consulting disciplines to provide the most comprehensive care for our patients.

Main Function

Provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients in a scientific and humanistic focus. The Robert Packer Hospital Staff Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in the physiological, psychological, social-cultural, developmental and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age specific and are directed toward optimal wellness.

Education

Bachelor's Degree RN

Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program.   Nurses hired who have not earned a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, will be required to do so within five (5) years from their date of hire.

Experience

One year RN experience within the last five years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) desired. Experience working in a team environment is essential. Computer skills required and prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Must be able to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call. Will need to demonstrate ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Must demonstrate leadership skills, skills contributing towards a positive teamwork environment, effective communication and excellent critical thinking skills.
