Basic Life Support
CPR / AED Certification
The RN must be currently licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and must successfully complete a medication and IV exam, as outline by the hospital, during the orientation period. In addition, the RN must meet individual nursing unit specifications regarding educational requirement during employment. The RN must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. Specialty certification, RN-BC M/S or Peds should be achieved as soon as the RN is eligible. Specialty certification/training as required by specific units or specialty includes: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), PALS, and Trauma training within the first year after hire.
6 Main is a 13 bed medical/surgical unit where staff members provide care for patients with a multitude of diagnoses, including caring for our pediatric population, which consists of ages 12 and under. Along with the pediatric population, 6 Main specializes in caring for patients who require Lumbar Drains. The unit consists of 6 semi-private rooms and one isolation room. All rooms have capability of telemetry and continuous pulse oximetry monitoring. Our nurses work alongside of and are supported by our patient care partners to provide the best care possible to our patient population. There is an active Unit Council on 6 Main responsible for guiding patient and staff satisfaction.
6 Main Medical Surgical Unit: The 6 Main Unit is a 13-bed medical/surgical patient care unit that provides for a wide variety of acute illnesses as well as post-operative surgical care for adult populations. The unit specializes in post recovery of robotic urological procedures. All beds have the capability of telemetry, continuous pSO2 and vital sign monitoring.
The unit believes it is our responsibility to provide patient centered care that will enable patients and their families to cope with the physiological and psychological aspects of their illness or injury. We believe that exceptional care of the patient embodies excellent clinical skills intertwined with compassionate care to achieve maximum quality of life.
We have a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team that helps to provide excellent patient care to all patients on our unit. The unit utilizes Interdisciplinary/Progression of Care Rounds, white boards, bedside reporting and hourly rounds. Our goal is to provide each patient an individualized care plan and provide them the support and care they need and deserve.

Provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients in a scientific and humanistic focus. The Robert Packer Hospital Staff Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in the physiological, psychological, social-cultural, developmental and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age specific and are directed toward optimal wellness.
Bachelor's Degree RN
Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program. Nurses hired who have not earned a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, will be required to do so within five (5) years from their date of hire.
One year RN experience within the last five years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) desired. Experience working in a team environment is essential. Computer skills required and prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Must be able to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call. Will need to demonstrate ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Must demonstrate leadership skills, skills contributing towards a positive teamwork environment, effective communication, and excellent critical thinking skills.
