The Neurodiagnostic lab technician prepares patients for and conducts routine and specialized electroneurodiagnostic (END) procedures; collects data pertinent to the interpretation of test results. Tests include EEG, EMG, Evoked Potentials, Nerve Conduction Studies, MSLTs, assist physician with EMG studies, and scoring of Nocturnal Polysomnograms and CPAP titrations.
High school graduate or GED
One year experience working in a healthcare setting.
a. Educates the patient and or family on the test procedure, interacting on a level appropriate to the patients age and mental capacity
b. Evaluates the patient for comprehension and ability to cooperate utilized approved methods to improve patient cooperation/relaxation. Follows hopspital protocols for sedation
c. Documents a comprehensive patient history gathering appropriate information from patient, patients record and family members including neurological symptomatology and medication
d. Verifies identity of patient and provides adequate patient ID on all studies
e. Ensures patient safety at all times. Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate actions to take during emergency situation, ensures electrical safety to patient and staff.
