The RN must be currently licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and must successfully complete a medication and IV exam, as outline by the hospital, during the orientation period.   In addition, the RN must meet individual nursing unit specifications regarding educational requirement during employment.    The RN must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.  Specialty certification, RN-BC M/S or Cardiac/Vascular, PCCN should be achieved as soon as the RN is eligible. Specialty certification/training as required by specific units or specialty includes: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), PALS, and Trauma training within the first year after hire.

Main Function

Provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients in a scientific and humanistic focus. The Robert Packer Hospital Staff Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in the physiological, psychological, social-cultural, developmental and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age specific and are directed toward optimal wellness.

Education

Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program.   Nurses hired who have not earned a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, will be required to do so within five (5) years from their date of hire.

 

Experience

The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Robert Packer Hospital Nursing Professional Practice Model.  The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects
