Main Function








































The Registered Nurse is continuously responsible for professional nursing care of all residents on the nursing unit during tour of duty; assume team leader responsibilities and supervise, direct, and evaluate the nursing team. Services to be provided to residents over 16 years of age regardless of age, race, religion, and cultural background. Majority of services provided to the elderly.

    • Compliance with rules and regulations of all federal, state, and local governments is a requirement of employment.
    • Meets with the Director of Nursing/Administrator to plan/evaluate care of residents.
    • Plans resident care, assigns duties.
    • Assists in orienting and instructing new personnel.
    • Directs and supervises nursing personnel, including LPN’s and CNAs on shift.
    • Provides direct resident care by utilizing the nursing process.
    • Documents appropriately in resident record.
    • Accepts responsibility of team leader or charge nurse.
    • Formulates resident care plans.
    • Assumes other duties reasonably related.
    • Admits and assesses new residents.
    • Participates in team conferences.
    • Work with hospital discharge planner and family members.
    • Works with area Home Health agencies as needed for discharged resident’s needs.
    • Keeps informed of fire, safety, and disaster programs.
    • Attends designated inservice programs.
    • Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
    • Participates in resident/family/caregivers education and counseling.
    • Able to interact and direct staff in a positive and professional manner.
    • Resolves staffing problems.
    • Must take call.
    • Maintains resident rights.


Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program.


Preferable but not required. Maintains CPR certification. Ability to read, write, and understand written and oral communication. Follows universal precautions and utilizes proper body mechanics. Keeps up to date in the field of nursing, especially geriatrics. Act 34 clearance (criminal background check).
