This position is part of the Corning Hospital Bargaining Unit.

CPR Certification required or completion of course within first 90 day orientation.

Non-Exempt

Main Function

Responsible for interviewing and greeting incoming patients (or representatives) for all patient

types, preparing and processing pertinent patient information, to include demographics

and insurance verification & authorization. Assumes the clerical duties of the health care

team, as well as functions as a receptionist for patients and visitors. Greets all visitors to the

Hospital promptly and courteously. Escorting of patients/visitors to appropriate areas, or

obtaining for those whom need a wheelchair, etc. Arranges for patients to speak with financial

counselor if needed.

Education

High school graduate or equivalent. Post high school work in the secretarial sciences desirable. Working knowledge of medical terminology required, with a medical terminology course completion.  Proficiency with computer office software including Microsoft Word, and excel required. Must possess an abiding commitment to basic ethical and legal principles, including familiarity with HIPAA and protected health information.

Experience

Previous hospital or medical office data entry experience required.  Excellent communication skills. Competency in keyboarding, with the ability to type 50-60 wpm. Microsoft Word required. Experience using internet search engine. Working knowledge of Medical Terminology.Understanding of ICD-9 coding. Familiarity with various insurance plans. IDX/EPIC experience required. Input and obtain information from computer effectively
