Main Function

Reporting to The Guthrie Clinic Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Vice President of Managed Care (VP Managed Care) plays an essential role in ensuring the success and financial stability of The Guthrie Clinic (Guthrie).  Through the development and enhancement of relationships with health plans and local employers, the VP of Managed Care has the lead responsibility to develop, implement, negotiate and administer all of Guthrie’s managed care fee for service, value based and risk contracts.  Of key importance is understanding and dissemination information regarding local, regional and national market trends and opportunities, seeking out new opportunities for relationships with payers and employers, planning, organizing, directing and leading all payer contract negotiations, and management and oversight of the implementation, performance evaluation and maintenance of all managed care fee for service, value based and risk agreements. The VP of Managed Care is responsible for ensuring effective and proactive internal and external communication, coordination and collaboration between Guthrie’s Managed Care Department and other operational areas, including but not limited to the Guthrie Medical Group, population health, operations, business development, marketing and communications, quality, HIM, care coordination/UM, planning, finance, legal and revenue cycle departments. 

Education

BS or BA degree is required.  MBA, MHA or equivalent graduate degree or commensurate experience in a managed care or similar health care environment is strongly preferred.

  • Strong managed care contract negotiation skills with exceptional verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years prior relevant senior level managed care contracting experience with at least 10 years’ experience in a healthcare and/or insurance managed care function
  • BS or BA degree is required.  MBA, MHA or equivalent graduate degree or commensurate experience in a managed care or similar health care environment is strongly preferred.   
  • Proven experience reviewing and effectively negotiating and administering managed care contracts.
  • Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively managing and supervising a high performance team.
  • Bright, creative, high energy, proactive, collaborative and outgoing.
